I had 9 weeks of radiation 5 days a week. Dr. Little was my oncologist and he along with the radiation staff were great. I've now been cancer free for over a year.

When I say the care my father received at SIH Cancer Institute under the direction of Dr. Lakshmi Manogna Chintalacheruvu foreshortened my father's life I'm not being facetious. We came to SIH Cancer Institute seeking help with symptom management knowing my father was going to die. We left emotionally scarred having lost countless time with my father due to their gross medical negligence. Dr. Lakshmi Manogna Chintalacheruvu led him down a path of fear based decision making, ignored his personhood issues, almost killed him by not clarifying his questions about how to take two different medications, never gave him access to palliative care, made him sit for days in the ER when putting a necessary medical intervention "as needed" would have eliminated this wasted time, and lets her personal biases overrule current medical studies and proven symptom management practices. To say our experience with her and SIH has left us traumatized would be an understatement. She treats patients in a dangerous "one size fits all" manner. I implore anyone who is given her as a doctor to request another. And if you have the ability to go to Barnes instead of SIH please do so. My mother, who also died of cancer, was treated at Barnes and the amount of care she received vs what my father was subjected to is almost unbelievable. I know if you live in the area SIH seems like the more reasonable option. I know it's closer for people, and I understand being able to go to Barnes for treatment is a privileged not everyone has, but even a good PCP would be more helpful in end of life symptom management than this facility has proven itself to be.

Dr. Lakshmi (hematology) has essentially saved my partner's life and quality of life in general. Since seeing her for severe anemia multiple times now, his H&H has finally (after battling critically low levels with multiple transfusions for 7 mos) not only maintained, but is improving. I almost jumped out of my seat when we heard his lab results. None of this could have been possible without her wise interventions and expertise. I could not recommend her more. She carefully and systematically reviewed his history and medications and developed a purely scientifically based approach to his treatment plan. I have so much respect and admiration for her and her team

Used the Lab Service here for the first time & I will be returning for all future tests!! Josh was awesome! He was extremely friendly informative & more he managed to draw my blood on the first stick (which rarely happens anywhere)

Dr. Popalzai is the medical director at the SIH Cancer Institute, for good reason. He's excellent at his job, always current with the latest scientific findings and smart and sensible in selecting the most effective and appropriate therapies. He also keeps regular channels open to the world-class cancer specialists at the Siteman Center at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, so you're sure to have their input if needed. As a doctor, he's patient and clear in his consultations with patients and I've found he's always glad to answer questions and discuss options. The team of doctors at the Cancer Institute is generally very good, but you can't do better in Southern Illinois than to have Popalzai as your oncologist.
