Under new ownership, it is clear that the conveniently located Historic Cow Palace Inn is in capable hands. My queen bed and the pillows were comfortable and clean. The remodeled bathroom had a spacious shower, and the toilet was in good shape. The nightstands had ample charging ports. Overall the room was comfortable.
The door to my room opened to the interior atrium/restaurant/pool area. This area smelled not of chlorine, but of clean earth. As best I could determine, this space was full of live trees and plants. Sounds from the restaurant area could be heard in the room but only if you concentrated on them. The restaurant, Tavern 1301, is wonderful, but I'll give it it's own review. All the staff were very helpful, quick, and attentive, making the stay a pleasant one. I will check for vacancies here first if my travels carry me through again; hopefully I'll have more time to explore!

Absolutely fabulous job renovating and making this hotel feel like a 5 star place on the Plains. We stayed in one of the upgrade rooms that has a sitting area as well as the bedroom. Huge. And the bathroom is beyond spectacular. Claw foot tub that is really comfy and a huge shower with multiple heads to give you the shower experience you deserve. The restaurant is also 5 star and wait until you experience the tropical feel from the indoor garden with all beautiful and real plants. There is a nice hot tube and a pool like none other in a hotel. It goes to 11 feet deep! This historic hotel has wide hallways, unique art and a vibe!
Finally, if you are a wedding party, there's a whole wing just for you with a private indoor balcony that overlooks the garden and restaurant area.

Our family of six stayed here on August 9 and had a lovely experience. We were on our way home from a Colorado vacation and this was the perfect place to rest, relax, eat, and swim.

The pool hours seem odd but when you see that it’s extremely close to the restaurant, it makes sense. We checked in about 6pm, went to the room, ate dinner at Tavern 1301 which was family friendly for our four little kids all between 4-8. Tammy was our waitress and she was so knowledgeable of the area, history of the hotel, and made us feel very welcome.
After dinner, we went to the pool when it opened at 8 and closed it down at 10pm.

Breakfast was perfect for our family.

We loved our stay and would absolutely go mourning our way to stay here again. This was a great place for our family.

I reviewed last year and my review somehow is not here anymore. I had high hopes for this unique hotel but it was a big miss. Rooms smelled like mildew and mold, TV did not work, seemed the bathroom was in the middle of a renovation. I had a first floor room that opened into the restaurant - - not sure why they would design a hotel with rooms two steps from the restaurant as it was loud. They accept dogs but are not dog friendly i.e. there is no safe, grass area for dogs to explore or use the restroom (the Cobblestone hotel next door does though). Bed was comfortable.

I stayed here on April 22nd. It was very clean & comfortable. Loved the "retro" Frigidaire mini fridge. The front desk service was great. I am a female traveling alone, I never once felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
I plan on stopping and staying again sometime in October and I will definitely be trying Tavern 1301 this time.

Great experience staying here. Very helpful staff that even showed me to my room. The place is freshly updated and actually really nice compared to how it used to be. We come to the area semi frequently for family and have always avoided here but seen they’ve changed things so decided to stay and wow it’s awesome. The pool hours are very weird but we got over it and the restraints inside has good food but it is pricey for what it is. I loved the ambience in the big hall/ dining area I love nature and plants and it was a nice touch. Definitely will stay here moving forward!

Could tell there was effort to update, but some aspects missed the mark; not matching the reviews.
What was good:
The front desk staff provided a warm and welcoming greeting upon arrival.
The bed was very comfortable, ensuring a good night’s sleep.
The room was clean and well-maintained.

Room for improvement:
Bar experience: While enjoying a beer at the bar, noticed the selection lacked local options. Considering Colorado’s thriving microbrewery scene, it would be great to see this hotel support local small businesses by offering microbrews. Additionally, the bar staff openly discussed operational matters such as staffing and financial performance. Even though it was the end of the day, this type of conversation is best kept private and not in earshot of guests.
Room aesthetics and amenities: The room’s color palette felt overly busy, with competing colors and furniture style that detracted from creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The lack of Wi-Fi was disappointing, and the limited TV channel options, coupled with a confusing interface for finding news channels, added frustration.

The bathroom was extremely small and in need of updates to match modern expectations. One of the smallest I have experienced.

Breakfast: The breakfast options leaned heavily on over-processed foods, with the exception of some eggs, which were decent. However, there were no salt or pepper shakers at the table, requiring a trip to the dining area to fetch them. We were the only ones in what was a super large sterile room; made it feel awkward.

Did not use the pool or restaurant.
