I came in on 10/17/24 with virgin naturally dark brown curly hair 2C/3A. I was excited to go to the salon for the first time to go 2 shades lighter than my natural color without bleach (I wanted a chocolate brown). I wanted to go get it professionally done because I know that box dying it yourself usually gives you hot roots.

I regret ever going to the salon. I left with hot roots (what I least wanted) and the rest of my hair color not lifting (and I promise you I’ve never dyed my hair nor ever had it go through any chemical processes, it was all virgin so idk why the color didn’t lift on my ends). My family members told me they thought I box dyed it when they saw me. It sucks that I paid $150 plus a tip for this service. To make things worse, my stylist didn’t seem to know how to style curly hair and my hair takes a very long time to dry with a blow dryer so I just decided to let it air dry after she blow dried it for a bit, and the frizz was insane when I got home. When I style my hair with my routine, my curls are defined and tamed, never like the photo I attached.

And to my understanding of how hair dye works, the only way to fix this without bleach would be to dye the roots darker to match the rest of my hair (which basically means I’d be dying my hair back to my natural hair color). And I can’t just dye the ends of my hair to match the roots, because color doesn’t lift color without bleach (I don’t want to use bleach on my hair because I’m afraid of damaging my curl pattern). At this point, I decided to just let my hair grow out and hopefully it’ll start to look better in a few months.

I don’t think this hair salon is necessarily a bad hair salon because I’ve seen a lot of great photos of people who have gotten their color done here. It just didn’t work out for me and it sucks that this was my first salon experience that resulted in poorly dyed hair and a loss of $150+.

Jacy was ever so lovely and skilled with my wavy/ curly hair and explained so much about how to adapt my care routines now I’m spending time in the pool regularly. I have hair longer than shoulder length and she was so protective of my texture and length during her trim, and a delightful person to talk to

I was originally going to write a negative review because I was super upset that I had to wait 40 minutes for an appointment I had booked online... But I just can't do it because the service was amazing. Megz was absolutely phenomenal and so so kind with me today when they gave me a buzz cut. They even accommodated my fear of being seen by moving me down toward the end of the shop and hugged me after I cried teared up in their chair. I also had amazing service the first time I went (Sunday) and had my hair straightened by Tanya. The hair pros are very kind and the service is great. I definitely intend to come back because the service is just top notch.

I’ve gotten my hair cut twice now with Grace at Bishops in Chamblee and I can honestly say, I can’t imagine getting my hair cut anywhere else. All the staff seem like great people and the shop itself is very inviting. Grace is absolutely wonderful. She’s super chill, super nice, and she definitely knows her stuff. Bishops is a really cool place with a great vibe and awesome energy. I highly recommend it.
