A month ago I got a couple piercings at the Pierced. section of the business. I was really excited to find a budget friendly piercer “dedicated to working exclusively with 14k solid gold jewelry” who also uses needles, not guns. I had my daith pierced and the side of my ear, not officially cartilage but higher than a standard lobe piercing. The jewelry was really cute, and very reasonably priced. Madison squeezed me into her calendar a couple days after I first went in to ask some questions. At first everything was ok, but after about a week I noticed that the swelling wasn’t going down. After two weeks some bumps were forming, along with more oozing and crusting than expected. This isn’t my first piercing rodeo, so I gave it a little more time, continued to be diligent about keeping the piercings clean, not touching them and rotating the jewelry at all. It’s been a month this week and things continued to get worse. I went to my standard piercing studio for some help. I’ve come to learn that the list of problems creating my healing issues include:
Daith- the hoop is too small for a new piercing, creating pressure on both sides of the hole, continually irritating it and creating crusty, goopy lumps
-the hoop is a clicker which is not meant to be used for new piercing as it will irritate the hole when it rotates through it
Side of ear- the piercing was very crooked, so the bottom of the post was creating pressure on the exit side of the hole and creating a huge, goopy lump. That piercing could not be salvaged and will need to pierced again.
Surely there will be people who will say that I was creating the irritation with improper care. You are free to your opinions. But what is indisputable is that come to find out- the jewelry that is advertised on the website as being solid 14k gold is not. At best it is gold plated, at worst… doesn’t even matter. I’m bummed. The long and short of it- you’ll get what you pay for, it’s inexpensive for a reason. Pay the money to go to someone with more experience and pay the money for some quality jewelry. If you want very cute earring for long established piercings for a good price, Pierced. at Annabellas lashes is the place to go
